1.1 Background of the Study
Access to clean drinking water is a fundamental human right, yet many rural communities in Nigeria, including Kaugama Local Government Area in Jigawa State, struggle to obtain safe and reliable sources of water. Contaminated water sources pose serious health risks and contribute to the spread of waterborne diseases. Photography has the potential to document the challenges surrounding access to clean water, from polluted sources to the efforts of local communities and NGOs working to provide clean water solutions. This study explores how photography can be used to highlight the issue of access to clean drinking water in Kaugama LGA.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite numerous initiatives to improve access to clean drinking water in Kaugama LGA, many communities still rely on unsafe water sources, leading to significant public health concerns. Photography can be used to document the water access challenges faced by local communities, raise awareness about the importance of clean water, and highlight the efforts being made to improve access. However, the role of photography in advocating for better water infrastructure and access remains underexplored. This study aims to investigate how photography can raise awareness about this critical issue.
